A study for Community Groups to use the week of November 2nd
To prepare for your group discussion each week, group members should use the Series Guide to complete foundational questions in the book for week 3 using the scripture below.
Week Three: Matthew 13:24-30; 36-43
Overview
From beginning to end of Jesus’ time on this earth the kingdom of God was a subject He could not stop talking about. It was one of the first things He proclaimed there on the banks of the Jordan. It was what He told His disciples about even after His resurrection. It was proclaimed through parables, subtly mentioned in prayers. But what is it? Kingdom Come is an invitation for all of us to engage Jesus’ invitation to allow His goodness and grace to increasingly rule every area of our hearts so that good news multiplies from every heart and every home; beginning with ours.
Passage: Matthew 13:24-30; 36-43
“Jesus now removed Himself from the crowds by reentering the house. Jesus’ disciples were not different from the crowd because they immediately understood the parables. They were different because they persisted in asking Jesus to help them understand the parables, whereas the crowds showed less interest.”

Questions
*In the Discipleship Guide you will find basic questions we want all to use as they begin to look at the passage. Questions such as; Who have you had the opportunity to BLESS this week? What does this passage reveal about God? About people? About the life He has planned for us? These additional questions relate to the passage specifically for your benefit.
1. The servants were eager to remove the weeds. Sometimes we can have the same tendency, to want to judge and "cleanse" when we look at our world and see both good and evil. What can this look like for us when we get it wrong? How does knowing God’s patience invite us to respond in a world filled with wheat and weeds?
2. As Jesus explains the parable he mentions that the weed is a counterfeit to the wheat. When you think of counterfeits to the kingdom in our world today what comes to mind? What message are they promoting to us that conflicts with the message of Jesus and His kingdom?
3. Jesus uses a mustard seed and yeast to emphasize the small, yet persistent work of the kingdom in our world. How have you seen God use small or seemingly insignificant acts to bring about long term change in our world or even in your life?
4. The parable invites us to trust both God’s timing and God’s effectiveness even when we do not see it. Where is God inviting you to trust Him with a circumstance, relationship, or timing that is difficult in this season? How could you take a step of trust this week?
